Catching up!

Hello, all!

Anime Halloween 3 was a great success! We had a bigger audience than ever before! The anime was great, the cosplayers were awesome, and the curry turned out okay in spite of my worries, or at least nobody complained and lots was eaten. ^^ (Sorry if I was a bit out of things, I was not well and ended up in the emergency room 36 hours later.)

Now, as usual, we are looking for movies to show in the new year. January and February are always tough months to schedule for, because all the major kids' DVD releases come before Christmas or later in Spring, for Easter. And anything older we show has kids telling us, "Oh, I got that one for Christmas."

So, this is the best time for repeats, classics, or special events. Anyone want a particular older movie shown in February? Maybe a Harry Potter Deathly Hallows double feature? I'm willing to hear any suggestions, either here or in person in the library!

The end of Summer Reading-- Anime Halloween 3!

The end of the Summer Reading program has arrived, and we will miss it! Thanks to everyone who took part. The outdoor movies were mostly a success. We watched Rango indoors due to rain. Rio was outside, though, on a beautiful night. Everyone had a good time, including (unfortunately) the mosquitos.

Our third Anime Halloween will be coming up on October 29th! I hope you can make it for anime, curry, and cosplaying! Dressing up is encouraged, but not compulsory.

Summer's here - Outdoor movies scheduled!

We will be having two movies outdoors this summer, weather permitting! The first will be on August 12th, the second a week later on August 19th.

Be prepared, and supply your own lawn chairs, blankets, jackets, mosquito spray, and anything else you may need to brave an evening in the back yard! :D

Anime Afternoon rocked!

Thanks to everybody who came! We had 27 people attend the event this time, more than ever before. Fortunately we had a lot of very cool door prizes this time around. We watched Black Butler, Pokemon, Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach, The Gokusen, Disgaea, The Story of Saiunkoku, School Rumble, and lots more! There was Japanese-style curry rice, traditional and peanut butter taiyaki, Japanese candy, Pocky, ichigo (strawberries!) with whipped topping, Cheetos, sandwich stuff, and Alyssa brought in delicious marzipan. (Thank you!) I am still tired, and the library still smells like curry, but all the anime is back in circulation.

Thanks to the Friends of the Library for helping to finance it! And thanks to everyone who spread the word and helped to make Anime Afternoon such a success!

More anime and stuff

Well, the 83rd Academy Awards are coming up! I think Toy Story 3 has the Best Animated Film in the bag, don't you? It was disappointing that Despicable Me didn't get an nomination, though. That was another excellent film.

Gearing up for the next Anime Afternoon already, coming up on April 2. As always, we will have curry rice, Japanese candy, Pocky and snacks.

The Muehl Public Library has added a lot of new anime already this year. We have the complete collection of Vampire Knight, sure to delight Twilight fans and other angsty Vampire romance groupies. We have the first half of Black Butler, for those who prefer their anime more ghoulish and funny. Those are both dubbed in English, too--so many new anime are only available subtitled now. In the subtitled department, we have added the first part of Gin Tama (sci-fi samurai comedy adventures) and parts 3 and 4 of Eyeshield 21 (Football, comedy.)

In regular cartoons we have added the complete Dangermouse series (British secret agent mouse!) and the Best of Fat Albert.

New Year!

Yay, it's 2011, and we have money in the movie budget again!

We'll be starting off the year by adding the complete collection of Bewitched! Eight seasons of Darren and Samantha, Endora, Tabitha, and the Cravitzes next door. Classic comedy, watch for it!

Also, Part 3 of the excellent animated football series, Eyeshield 21. In this segment, the Deimon Devil Bats take a training trip to the USA. If you want to see how America is viewed by the Japanese, this section is good for a few laughs. Wanna join an NFL team? Just show up for the public try-outs. :D

If you know of movies you think we should own, don't be afraid to suggest them at the front desk. We have Purchase Request forms for you to suggest library materials you want us to add to the collection.

VHS tapes are still here! I have doubts whether they will last through another year, though, as the collection is aging and they've pretty much stopped making them. We are not yet seriously considering adding a Bluray collection at Seymour yet, though the time will probably come.
