Starting up movies again!

 We will be having Friday night movies again! We are looking at a schedule of one per month, probably on the third Friday of each month, and are kicking off with The Bad Guys on Sept 16.  The Manhattan Short festival is also returning in September--watch for details!  And of course, ANIME HALLOWEEN is returning on October 29th!  Get ready for the madness!

 We will be finishing off the summer movies with the 1963 classic, The Incredible Mr. Limpet, starring comedy favorite Don Knotts, most famous for appearing in many Disney movies,and for playing Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith show.

Manhatten SHORT Film Festival Returns!

Last year's Manhattan Short Film Festival made such an impression on us that we are delighted to host it again this year!

From 1250 entries, from 70 countries, ten finalists have been chosen!  These ten short films will be shown at the library, where viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite and help choose the winner.

We will have four showings at the Muehl Public Library, and each night, all 10 short films will be shown. (Average about 15 minutes each.)

Sunday October 6: 2 pm

Spring at last!

Let's hope this was the last snowstorm of the year! (Well, at least till December.)

This Spring's Anime Afternoon is on May 4th, Star Wars Day! So prepare for a double scoop of otaku happiness and the usual curry, taiyaki, bottlecap charms and aaaaaniiiimeee!

Where did the year go?

Here it is, well into December! We have had lots of wonderful movie nights, added tons of new films to the library, bought some more anime, and had a great time with you. Enjoy your holidays, and keep warm!

Um, yeah, forgot about posting the new movies as they come in, already. XD Well, we've added Cars 3, Blade Runner 2049, and A Bad Moms Christmas in February! Not sure what I've missed in between.

We also now have the popular new anime release, Yuri On Ice, and will be previewing it on Feb 16, at the Fruits Basket/Chinese New Year night, so if you love pretty boys and/or figure skating,don't miss it! (We are waiting on cataloging to add it to the shelf.)

Chinese New Year and New Movies!

On February 16th, we will be having a special Fruits Basket viewing to celebrate the Year of the Dog. Hope to see you there!

One of the things I am always asked is, "Do you have anything new?" The library spends around $400 a month on videos, so the answer is YES. Remembering what they are is often a problem, especially since the new releases usually have long waiting lists.

So, I am going to try posting our new titles here! (Disclaimer: if I stop, it's not because we've stopped getting movies, probably just because I forgot. Or got too busy. Or got bored with it. Heh, heh.)

The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Part 2 of Season One, and Season 2. (We already had Season 1 Part 1. By the way, in spite of what the catalog says, this is a combo set, so if you don't have a blu-ray player you can still watch it.)

Exciting new movies!

I have to say, this is a great time to be scheduling the Friday Night movies. So many top-level new releases that we're scheduled all the way to Halloween! I keep a couple of emergency fall-back movies in the drawer in case of a lack of good new releases, but have not had to trot any of them out for some time. (Justin and the Knights of Valor finally got used when the BFG DVD release date was delayed for the second time.) If you are curious, the emergency movies we are holding in reserve are Beyond Beyond and April & the Extraordinary World.

More exciting new anime titles, both dubbed in English! We have GATE, the story of the military action that takes place when a portal to a fantasy world opens, and a unit of the Japanese Defense Force is sent to investigate. Also new is the animated version of School-Live! We have also just added Volume 7 of the manga. This is the story of a club that lives at their school and never leaves...for very good reasons.

Sadly, we have had a couple of brand new movie titles stolen off the shelf recently. It's sad to think someone would steal from the whole community like that. When it happens, I have the choice of spending movie budget money to replace the stolen items (instead of adding even more new titles) and feeling as if I am subsidizing the thief's collection, or just ignoring the theft and not having those stolen movies available for the rest of our community. We wil have to take some new anti-theft measures if this continues.

Anime Afternoon schedule change!

This year's Anime Afternoon will be on April 29th!

We have new and upcoming additions to our anime collection!

On the shelves now is the complete Allison & Lillia, a lighthearted adventure series. In Part One, rookie pilot Allison and her sharpshooter friend Will discover a secret that ends a centuries-old war, and take part in helping to build a peaceful future. Movie schedule change

We have decided to save Kubo and the Two Strings for a summer event, to include origami-folding! The BFG will be shown in February in its place...now that we actually have the disc!

Spirited Away, 15 years old!

I was very excited when I received an e-mail saying that Spirited Away was going to be appearing in movie theaters to celebrate its 15-year anniversary! But then I clicked the link to buy tickets, and the nearest theater was near Chicago.

But we have our own theater! So, for those of you who love the story of Chihiro (and those who have never seen it yet) we will have a special showing here at the library on Monday, December 5th, at 7 pm. Hope to see you there!

BFG fail...again!

Another BFG release date change! Sorry for the last-minute swap!

Movie Schedule Change

Due to a delay in the expected release date, we will not be able to show The BFG on September 23 as originally scheduled. Sorry! The BFG will be shown on November 11.

Summer is winding down!

It's been a great Summer Reading Program, and fall seems to be racing toward us....and Fall means it's almost time for Anime Halloween! Hope to see you there!

Have to leave the TV on for the dog these days, and it's resulted in my discovering some fun stuff on PBS. We have added a couple of Odd Squad DVDs to the children's section, and Stephen Hawking's Genius.

By the way, when I was at Kitsune Kon this year, we played a group game of the visual novel, Long Live the Queen. I'd love to do something like that for the library, but with a title more geared to younger children. (Not all that complicated mood calculation and class scheduling!) Anyone have a good suggestion?
